Abbate Bakery

I really liked the cream cheese frosting and the fact that they fill cannoli to order instead of letting them get mushy in the case. The cannoli we had were nice and crisp, and I loved the flavor in the filling.T heir lobster tails were filled with cannoli cream, and I prefer pastry cream, but the bake on the pastry was nice- crispy and soft.

The macarons were not so good, we tried a bunch and did not like the filling on more than half. I thought the Italian butter cookies were dry, and I didn't love the jelly in the rainbow cookies. I also didn't like the filling in the strawberry shortcake- it was tart like a raspberry and almost tasted off. The actual cake on the carrot cake had nothing in it like nuts or fruit, and very little shredded carrot, so that was also disappointing.

Overall, not bad, just not my favorite. My regular bakery was closed and this was on my list to check out, but I likely won't be back.

First, let me say that we love the pastries here! Our face are the apple turnovers and cinnamon buns. I would give 5 stars for that.

Unfortunately I can't say the same for the carrot cake. I ordered it early in the week for yesterday-my husbands birthday- and when I called in the am to make sure it was ready, it was not ready but could have it done in 10 min. The cake looked beautiful but when we cut into last night, it was mostly cream cheese filling and frosting! Super thick layers of cream cheese/frosting. Hardly any carrot cake. It looked like they baked one huge 7 in round and unevenly cut the slabs and then just loaded it with the cream cheese filling. Take a look at the photo. We were extremely disappointed.

From the minute you walk in you are mesmerized by the wonderful smell of fresh baked bread and cookies. They have a vast selection of Italian cookies, lobster tail danish's and my personal favorite, Sfogliatelle. They also have cakes, cannolis, and fresh baked bread. We were greeted by Mr. Abatte's daughters and could not ask for better service. The Abbate family are originally from a small town in Sicily, Italy called Cinisi and opened their first bakery in Brooklyn, New York in 1976. When in the Matawan New Jersey, it is must visit. You won't be disappointed.

Best bakery I have found in years!
Young women working there are very polite and accommodating.
I have driven miles out of the way to visit.
Every cookie I have tried is delicious.
Cakes look wonderful.
People have gotten used to mediocre cake from markets.
Abbate is a REAL bakery.

When in Jersy have to have a cannoli and maybe even a sfogliatelle.

These were a special treat before we left delivered from this amazing bakery that has a rich history and deep Italian roots.

The Abbate family from Cisini a small town in Sicily started their 1st bakery in Brooklyn NY in 1976.The Abbate family moved to another location in Brooklyn and finally found their 3rd brick and mortar in Matawan. NJ home since 2000.

46 years of quality baked goods is evident in the delicate crust in the sfogliatelle and perfectly sweetened creme inside.

Besides their wide variety of pastries and cakes, they also sell cannoli kits in case you want to create your own in small& large sizes .

Pizza dough is also sold which I found interesting on their website .I make my own but love that that is available, too.

Next time in Matawan, will definitely be making a return visit.

Food and service are great, this time I purchased bread and brownies on Easter Sunday, long long line and the
employees expertly and efficiently moved the line, waited 35 min to get to counter and it's worth the wait, nice signage from a place in my history Bayridge Brooklyn, lived on Bayridge av right down the block!

I tried several pastries and the rumbaba. Everything was excellent. The service was excellent and quick.

Really good, was busy during Christmas time but they kept everyone moving and had a lot of people there to help.

Old school, great variety, wonderful staff. A real go to place for all varieties of authentic Italian baked goods

Absolutely the Best bakery in the Marlboro/Matawan area. I stopped to get some bread but I couldn't resist the croissants especially the chocolate ones.
