Sandy police investigate murder, identify 20-year-old victim

UPDATE: Police have identified the victim as Marco Antonio Ibanez.

( KUTV) Sandy police are investigating the murder of a 20-year-old man who was found dead in the basement of a Sandy home.

Emergency crews responded to the home near 1350 E. 8085 S. around 3:15 p.m. Monday after receiving a call from the landlord of the home stating that he found the man dead on the floor and covered in blood.

Investigators are not releasing the identity of the man at this time, but say he is in his early 20's.

The living situation of the people at the home has complicated the investigation, according to Sandy Police Sgt. Dean Carriger.

"It was a rental property that is currently being rented, sub-rented, and sub-rented by the sub-renters so there are multiple people that are living within that residence," Carriger said.

Officers are currently trying to track down the other people that lived at the home to see if they know anything about the murder.

Detectives obtained a search warrant Monday evening and began processing the scene. Crime scene investigators remained at the home Tuesday morning.

Police say they have not been able to confirm the man's identity and have scheduled an autopsy.
