NBC Sports reports after the Los Angeles Rams didn’t use a first-round draft pick on a quarterback, QB Matthew Stafford’s camp made it known he wants a new contract. To date, he has yet to get one. His only leverage that doesn’t entail a potential fine consists of staying away from OTAs. For the Rams, they start Monday. So it’s fair to wonder whether Stafford will be there. Complicating matters for the Rams is the fact that the guy who got the hot-potato-to-Detroit treatment, QB Jared Goff, recently got a contract worth $53 million per year in new money — and that has a practical guarantee of $148 million at signing. Stafford specifically wants more guaranteed money beyond 2024, which would keep the Rams from cutting him after this season. (He currently has only $10 million in fully guaranteed compensation for 2025.) The fact that Goff will get more than $75 million in cash this year becomes another potential issue for Stafford, whose payout from the Rams in 2024 is $31 million.

The Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports Steeles RB Najee Harris has changed his diet and workout routine to lose weight ahead of the 2024 NFL season. Harris has reportedly lost seven pounds this offseason and has been “almost obsessively clean” with his diet in recent months. “It’s all fueling his fire to have an even better season than last year and prove a lot of people wrong,” said Josh Scott, Harris’ trainer. “There’s a lot of people that hate on him for whatever reason, but he’s been as consistent as you can be. He’s durable. I think he’s going to continue with that. I mean, contract season, that pretty much speaks for itself.”

The Denver Post reports free-agent S Justin Simmons was cut by the Broncos in March. NBC Sports reports Houston Texans DE Dylan Horton has finished his treatment for cancer. Horton posted a video on social media showing him ringing the bell in his hospital after his final treatment for Stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma. In November, Horton left the Texans for a medical leave. In March, Horton revealed that the reason for his leave was Stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which he said was in remission. Horton, who was placed on the non-football illness list last year, remains under contract with the Texans and will be able to participate in offseason activities when he is medically cleared to do so.

CBS Sports reports the Miami Dolphins will begin team drills on Monday as part of their voluntary organized team activities, and it's unclear whether starting QB Tua Tagovailoa will be a part of them. Tagovailoa has been absent for the large majority of voluntary offseason work since the Dolphins reported back April 15, sources close to the situation said. That is in stark contrast to his first four seasons in the league, when Tagovailoa was present for most of the voluntary work. Sources believe his absence is related to his contract status. Tagovailoa, the fifth overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, is currently set to play the 2024 season on his fifth-year option, worth $23.171 million. The Alabama alumnus has hoped for a long-term contract extension with the Dolphins, but one has not materialized to date. The going rate for today's NFL franchise quarterbacks is around the $50 million per year mark. Tagovailoa is scheduled to make less than half that in 2024 with no security beyond this season.

NBC Sports reports DE Cameron Heyward is entering his 14th season, and for the first time, he is not participating in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ voluntary offseason program. He is sitting out as he seeks a contract extension. “Have always attended these, but at this time it’s just contract negotiations, and I want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler, but we’ll see what happens,” Heyward said. “I’m training hard. It’s nothing I’m not doing on and off the field. I’m doing everything possible, and we’ll get there when we get there.” Heyward, 35, is entering the final year of his contract set to make $16 million in base salary.
