Walcott: Our rivals should be worried

Without much fuss or fanfare, Arsenal have slowly climbed into the positions that matter.

After kicking off the season with such high hopes and optimism, the Gunners feel-good factor seemed to have quickly disappeared.

Their opening-day shocker against West Ham, failure to add a striker in the transfer window, injuries to Danny Welbeck and Jack Wilshere, and indifferent performances ensured that.

Yet, after Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud’s goals saw off Stoke, Arsenal found themselves right back in the mix and on the tail of early-season leaders Manchester City.

That they are there when they have not yet clicked into gear should worry their rivals, according to Walcott.

He said: “People may not have seen the best of us yet but we’re keeping clean sheets and creating a lot of chances.

“We’re going to push on and when we hit our peak, people will be more and more worried. We don’t just want to fight for that fourth position. We do need a challenge for the title this time."

Gunners stars unwind at Anthony Joshua bout

Arsenal stars Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Calum Chambers, plus West Ham loanee Carl Jenkinson were snapped unwinding at Anthony Joshua's fight on Saturday night at the O2.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was in action for the Gunners as they beat Stoke 2-0 earlier in the day, but Chambers didn't feature.

Jenkinson, currently on loan at Upton Park from the Emirates, joined the pair to watch Joshua extend his record to 14-0, all inside the scheduled distance, with a devastating first-round knockout against Gary Cornish.

It won him the Commonwealth title - as he progresses on a path to an eventual world title fight in the future.

The victory, coming in only 97 seconds, was the quickest of the Brit's career so far, and he has never gone past the third round.

Arsenal were left disappointed when Reece Oxford signed a new contract at West Ham, according to Irons chairman David Gold.

The Gunners were interested in Oxford before the 16-year-old committed his future to the Upton Park club earlier this year.

Gold tweeted: "We had to beat off Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal to keep Reece Oxford on a long term deal."

Oxford starred for West Ham during their 2-0 win at the Emirates on the opening day of the season.
