Per Van Meter City Code of Ordinances Chapter 53, "Any property within the City, other than property used and taxed as agricultural, whether vacated or non-vacated, is required to be mowed prior to the vegetation reaching a height of 10 inches. Once the vegetation has reached the height of 10 inches to 24 inches, the City will arrange to mow the property at the property owner’s expense. Property used and taxed as agricultural is exempt from this chapter’s height and mowing requirements." Public Works will be hanging door hanger notices for properties that need attention prior to taking any action. A few reminders: -- Yard waste is collected on Thursdays. Waste Connections allows unlimited bags of yard waste as long as they are in the biodegradable compost/yard waste bags less than 50 lbs. Twigs and small branches may be in securely tied bundles no more than 4 feet in length or wider than 18 inches in diameter. Yard waste collection runs through November each year. --Per Chapter 135.03, "It is unlawful for any person to throw or deposit on any street or alley any glass, glass bottle, nails, tacks, wire, cans, trash, garbage, rubbish, litter, offal, leaves, grass or any other debris likely to be washed into the storm sewer and clog the storm sewer, or any substance likely to injure any person, animal or vehicle."--BURNING - Please do not burn debris on the city streets, sidewalks or culverts (which are in the City Right-of-Way). ... This includes (but is not limited to) political signs, real estate signs, for rent signs, business advertisements, graduation signs, team signs, etc. No signs, except those authorized on behalf of a governmental body for traffic control, bus stops, public utilities, and other public purposes, are permitted in the Right-of-Way (the area between the sidewalk and street).The City has the authority to remove any signs situated in the Right-of-Way. ...
