CLARA RACH

Mrs. Clara Rach, 78, of Mel, died early Monday evening at St Nicholas Hospital, 
Sheboygan, following a heart attack at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George 
Reinthaler, Sheboygan, where she had been staying for the past three weeks. She 
was born at St. Anna, Dec. 30, 1875, the daughter of William and Catherine Brill.
Her marriage to Nicholas Rach took place at St. Ann’s Catholic Church Nov. 13, 
1894.  The couple operated a farm until their retirement.  Mr. Rach preceded her 
in death on Feb. 13, 1941. Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. John Hubing, and 
Mrs. Aloys Schueller, both of Dacada; Mrs. Edward Riesterer, Chicago; Mrs. Walter 
Caldwell, Memphis; Mrs. Oliver Vandborg, Wheaton; and Mrs. Reinthaler; and one 
son, Hugo, at Kiel; 36 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and one brother, 
Theodore Brill, Chilton. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, one son, 
four sisters, and five brothers. She was a member of the Christian Mothers Society 
of the Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic church, Kiel. The group will recite the Rosary 
at the church at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.  Funeral services will be held Thursday at 
9:30 a.m. at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at the Ss. Peter and Paul 
Catholic Church. The Rev. F. X. Kheil, pastor of the church will officiate at the 
requiem mass. Burial will be in St Ann's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral 
home from 2 p.m. Wednesday until the time of services.

CLARA (RIHA) RACH

Mrs. Frank Riah(sic), nee Clara Rach, passed away at 6:15 p.m. Saturday 
at the Municipal hospital at Two Rivers following a lingering illness.  
Born in the town of New Holstein on Nov. 6, 1899, the daughter of Mr. and 
Mrs. John Rach, she spent her early life in the town of New Holstein and 
in Kiel.  On May 13, 1935, she was married to Frank Riah of Mishicot and 
resided there several years. They then resided in Two Rivers and Kiel for 
a number of years and for the past five months at 1013 Webster Street, 
Two Rivers.
Survivors are her husband; four sisters and a brother, Mrs. Peter Schmitz 
of Hilbert, Mrs. Edward Gross of Marytown, Mrs. Gilbert Mirsberger of 
Sheboygan, Mrs. William Zorn of Chilton and Leo Rach of Kiel; a step-daughter, 
Mrs. William Petska of Mishicot.  Her parents, one sister and three brothers 
preceded her in death.
Mrs. Riah was a member of the Auxiliaries of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of 
Two Rivers and the American Legion of Kiel.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Meiselwitz Funeral 
home at Kiel and at 10 o’clock at the St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Church 
at Kiel with the Rev. F. X. Kheil officiating.  Burial will be made in the 
St. Anna cemetery.

Sudden Death Of Henry Rach Causes Grief At St. Ann
Funeral services for Henry Rach, 63, whose sudden death at St. Ann shocked the 
entire community, were held Friday at St. Ann’s church with a solemn requiem mass 
conducted by Rev. J.H. Schmitt, assisted by Rev. Hanert of Kilbourne and Rev. 
Felix Sipple of Elkhart Lake.  Interment was made in the family lot in St. Ann’s 
cemetery.  Three years ago Mr. Rach had suffered a stroke of apoplexy, but for the 
past few years he appeared to be in good health.  He was a leading resident of the 
town of Russell and was a devout member of St. Ann’s church and St. Joseph’s 
society.  Mr. Rach was born in St. Ann, October 12, 1861, and on June 3, 1890, he 
was married to Miss Sophie Hanert.  The couple settled on a farm near New Holstein 
where they resided for ten years.  Since that time they had made their home at St. 
Ann.  Deceased is survived by his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Mary Pickart; two 
brothers, Nick and John Rach of Kiel, two sisters, Mrs. Nick Goebel of Jetmore, 
Kansas, and Mrs. Anna Wick of Kiel; and grand-daughter, Cecelia Pickart.

HENRY RACH

Henry Rach Dies On His Farm Near Kiel Saturday
Kiel. –
Henry Rach, aged 45, passed away very suddenly at his farm home, three miles west 
of Kiel, on Saturday, shortly before noon, as a result of heart attack.  He was 
stricken while at work at his home. The deceased, a son of John Rach of this city, 
was born Septemeber 6, 1888, on the farm where he passed away on Saturday.  He was 
married to Miss Hulda Nagel, Nov. 16, 1915, and the couple resided on the present 
farm home until 10 years ago, when he rented the farm to August Zorn and moved to 
Kiel, where the family remained for eight years.
While residing in Kiel, Mr. Rach served as alderman of the Third ward, for several 
terms.  Two years ago the Rach family moved back to their farm. To the couple were 
born eight children, of whom two passed away in infancy. The survivors are his wife, 
six children, Sylvester, Helen, LaVerne, Melvin, Eugene and John, at home, his aged 
father, John Rach of Kiel, two brothers, Louis of Granton, and Leo Rach of Kiel, 
and five sisters, Mrs. Peter Schmitz of Hilbert, Mrs. Edmund Gross of Marytown, Mrs. 
Gilbert Mersberger of Sheboygan, Miss Clara Rach and Mrs. Arno Burtard, both of Two 
Rivers.  His mother preceded him in death on September 15, 1913, and a sister, Mrs. 
Joseph Walber passed away 14 years ago.  Funeral services were held this morning at 
9:30 o’clock at the family residence, and at 10 o’clock at St. Ann’s Catholic church, 
with the Rev. Father J.H. Schmitt officiating.  Burial was made in the adjoining 
cemetery.

Henry Rach of Kiel Is Laid To Rest After Last Sad Rites
Kiel. – Funeral services for Henry Rach, who passed away at his home west of Kiel on 
Saturday morning, were held at the family residence Tuesday morning at 9:30 o’clock 
and at 10 o’clock at St. Ann’s Catholic church.  The Rev. Father J.H. Schmitt 
officiated and interment was made in the adjoining church cemetery.  Pallbearers

HILDA RACH BUCHHOLZ

A concelebrated funeral Mass for Mrs. Hilda Rach Buchholz, 80, a Kiel resident, 
who died early Thursday at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton will celebrated at 
10 a.m. Saturday at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel following brief 
family rites at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, at 9:30.  The Rev. Francis 
Kersher pastor will be celebrant, assisted by two other priests. Burial will be 
in St. Anna cemetery St Anna.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. 
today.  A wake service will be held there at 8 this evening.  The former Hilda 
Nadler was born on Jan 26, 1898 at St. Anna, a daughter of Nicholas and Anna 
Mirsberger Nadler. She attended St. Ann Catholic School. She married Henry Rach 
at St. Anna Catholic Church The couple operated a farm in the Town of New Holstein. 
Mr. Rach died on Dec 30, 1932.  On Feb 8, 1941, she married William Buchholz at St. 
Anna.  In 1943, the couple retired from farming and moved to Kiel. Mr. Buchholz 
died on Aug. 16, 1971. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, its Christian 
Mothers Society, the G.L.G. Germania Societv and the Kiel Senior Citizens Club. 
Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Sylvester (Helen) Halbach of rural New Holstein, 
four sons, Sylvester and Eugene Rach of Sheboygan, LaVerne Rach of Kiel and Melvin 
Rach of rural Chilton, 31 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. 
Amanda Janty of Kiel, two step-daughters, Mrs. Willard (Hildegard) Wieting of Kiel 
and Mrs. Lester (Anita) Schnell of rural Kiel, two step-sons, William Buchholz of 
rural Kiel and Elmer Buchholz of Kiel.  Prior to her illness, she was a resident 
of the Calumet Homestead in New Holstein.

John Rach Dies Monday Evening; Rites Thursday
John Rach, 86, 913 West Fremont street, Kiel, passed away at the St. Nicholas 
hospital in Sheboygan at 8 o'clock on Monday night. He had been confined there 
for the past 10 days.  His birth occurred in St. Ann on March 31, 1857, and he 
was the oldest child of the late Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Rach. He was married to 
Miss Barbara Mayer of Holy Cross on June 2, 1883, and following marriage the 
couple operated a farm in St. Ann township in Calumet county until 1915, when 
he and his children moved to the present home in Kiel. Mrs. Rach preceded her 
husband in death, passing away on Sept, 15, 1913. Survivors are one son and 
five daughters, namely, Leo, at home; Mrs. Peter Schmitz, Little Chute; Mrs. 
Edward Gross, Marytown; Mrs, Gilbert Mersberger, Sheboygan; Mrs. Frank Riha, 
Two Rivers, and Mrs. William Zorn, Chilton. Twenty grandchildren and 14 great-
grandchildren also survive. Three sons and one daughter preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday morning at 9:30 a. m. at the 
Mieselwitz Funeral home in Kiel and at 10 a.m. at the Ss. Peter and Paul 
Catholic church in Kiel, the Rev. F. V. Kheil officiating. Interment will be 
in the St. Ann's Catholic church cemetery at St, Ann.  Mr. Rach was a member 
of the Holy Name society of the church and members will recite the rosary at 
7:30 o'clock on Wednesday night at the Ss. Peter and Paul church.

JOHN HUGO RACH

Sgt. John H. Rach, 33, son of Mr and Mrs. William Buchholz of Kiel, died 
Monday evening of pneumonia aboard the ship USS General Maurice Rose en 
route to France.  He was in the U.S. Army for 15 1/2 years. The ship on 
which he was traveling left the United States Jan. 16 after Sgt. Rach had 
spent a holiday leave in Kiel with his parents. He was born Sept. 27, 1931, 
in Kiel, a son of Mrs. Hilda Rach Buchholz and the late Henry Rach. He 
attended Ss, Peter and Paul Catholic School and Kiel High School, graduating 
in 1949. Entering the Army immediately after graduation from high school, he 
served in Japan, Korea. New Foundland and in the states. He was married 
Aug. 1, 1951, to Beverly Skelton, Cascade, in Kentucky. Surviving are his 
mother and step-father; four sons, two daughters, a sister, and four brothers.

Kiel. — (Special) — Nicholas Rach, 71, of 717 Chicago street, passed away at St. 
Nicholas hospital in Sheboygan at 5:15 p.m. Sunday following a brief illness. He 
was born Dec. 28, 1869, in the town of New Holstein near St. Anna, a son of 
Nicholas and Elizabeth Rach, and was married to Clara Brill of New Holstein on 
Nov. 13, 1894. After their marriage, they resided on a farm in St. Anna before 
coming to their present home, where they have lived for the past 26 years.  
Survivors include his wife, eight children, Mrs. John B. Hubbing and Mrs. Aloys 
Schueller, of Belgium, Wis., Mrs. E. N. Reisterer and Miss Lorraine, Chicago, 
Hugo, of Kiel, Mrs. W. E. Caldwell, of Alexandria, La., Mrs. Oliver Vandborg, 
of Wheaton, Ill., and Mrs. George Reinthaler, of Sheboygan. Also surviving him 
are 31 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a brother, John, of Kiel. He was

Hold Last Rites For Nicholas Rach At Kiel Church
Kiel, Wis. — (Special) — Last rites for Nicholas Rach, aged 71, who lived at 
717 Chicago street in this city, who passed away at St. Nicholas hospital in 
Sheboygan following an operation, were conducted Wednesday morning from the 
Meiselwitz Funeral home and at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic at 9:30 o'clock by 
the Rev. Fr. J. J. Esdepsky. Interment was in St. Anna's Catholic cemetery. 
Pallbearers were the following nephews of the deceased: Leo Rach, Norbert Wick, 
Jerome, Elmer, Clarence and Norbert Brill.  Attending the services were 
relatives from Hilbert, Marytown, St. Anna, Mishicot, Two Rivers, Sheboygan, 
Milwaukee, Dacada, Cascade, Fond du Lac, New Holstein, Plymouth, Chicago, 
Belgium, town of Rhine and Russell, Alexandria, La., and Wheaton, Ill.

PETER RACH

St. Anna — Mr. Peter Rash(sic), a young man of 27 years, died March 26th 
and was buried at St. Anna, March 29th.  The deceased had been suffering 
from an internal affliction for the last half year, when his only hope of 
recovery rested in an operation, which was performed on him, apparently 
with success, but alas! terminated so fatally.

Mrs. Adam Ramminger died on Wednesday of last week at her home one mile west
of this village after a lingering illness of Chronic Bright’s disease, at the 
age of 51 years 11 months 26 days.  The deceased is survived by her husband, 
two daughters and four sons, namely; Mrs. Heiman Stinn, of Omro; Fabian of 
Milwaukee; Ambrose, Valentine and Mary at home.  The funeral took place on 
Sunday at 9 o’clock and was largely attended.  Rev. Fr. Schmitz of Kiel 
conducted the funeral service.

MARTHA ANNA RAMMINGER

Mrs. Martha Ramminger,84, of the Town of Rhine, died this morning at the 
Plymouth Extended Care Facility where she had resided the past 15 months. 
The former Martha Buhl, she was born Dec 24, 1891,near Charlestown, the 
daughter of Frank and Margaret Woelpel Buhl. In 1910 she was married to 
Valentine Ramminger at St. Charles Catholic Church, Charlestown.  After 
their marriage the couple lived in St. Anna for 10 years and in 1920 moved 
to Crystal Lake Mr. Ramminger died in 1941. She was a member of St. George 
Catholic Church, Elkhart Lake, and its Christian Mothers Society. Survivors 
are three sons, Sylvester of Oshkosh, Oscar of Sheboygan Fails, and Wallace 
of Plymouth, three daughters, Miss Lillian Ramminger of R 3, Plymouth, Mrs. 
Sherman (Rosemarie) Schnell of R 2, Kiel, and Mrs. Ray (Virginia) Stem of 
West Allis, 27 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  Two sons, four 
daughters, a granddaughter, two brothers and five sisters preceded her in 
death.  The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St George Catholic 
Church, preceded by brief family rites at 9 30 a.m. at the Wittkopp Funeral 
Home, Plymouth The Rev. George Myszel, pastor, will be celebrant of the Mass. 
Burial will be in St. Anna Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 
from 2 p.m. Monday until time of services. A service of the wake will be 
held there at 7 30 p.m. Monday.

Elkhart Lake, Wis, — Funeral services for Valentine Ramminger who passed away at 
his home at Crystal Lake Tuesday morning were held at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Raeder 
Funeral home and at 9:30 a. m. at St. George Catholic church- in this village, the 
Rev Clemens Kern of St, Ann's parish officiating in the absence of the Rev. A. J. 
Reinl, pastor of St. George.  Interment was in St. Anna cemetery. The pallbearers

Hold Last Rites For Gustave Ranz At St. Anna Church
St Anna —Funeral services for the late Gustave Ranz were held at 9:30 a.m. on 
Wednesday with the Rev. Clemens Kern officiating.  Burial was made in the St. 
Anna cemetery.
The pallbearers were: Edmund Turba, Louis, David, Henry, Adolph and William 
Gross and Jake Leiffring. The deceased was brought up by Mr. and Mrs. M. 
Hiederer of St. Ann after his parents died. Following the death of the couple 
he made his home with Joe and John Hiederer. Survivors include one sister, 
Margaret of Milwaukee, and one brother, George of Bristol, Minn. Many relatives 
and friends from Milwaukee, New Holstein Kiel Fond du Lac and Random Lake attended
the last rites.

Many Attend Last Rites At St. Anna, Wis.
Funeral services for Ambrose Reiser, 64, who died Thursday morning at the 
home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank J. Reding, Jr., 1419 S. Eleventh street, 
after a lingering illness, were held at 9:30 Saturday morning at St. Anna. 
The services were held at the St. Anna Catholic church with a high mass. 
The Rev. J. Haeusler of this city, the Rev. Father Roder of Kiel, and the 
Rev. Father Schmltt of St. Anna officiated. Burial was made in the St. Anna 
cemetery. The deceased was born in Town of Rhine on November 1, 1863, and 
his wife who was Miss Marie Nadler, preceded him in death one year and four 
months ago. He leaves to mourn his death seven children, Arthur A. Reiser of 
New Holsteln, Mrs. Walter J. Gregorious, Milwaukee; Nick Reiser of Plymouth; 
Mrs. John Neis, West Allis, William A. Reiser, St. Anna; Mrs. Eugene V. 
Breitenbach, North Milwaukee, and Mrs. Frank J, Reding, Jr., of this city.

JOSEPH W. REISER

Joseph W. Reiser, 73, of St. Anna, passed away at his home Sunday morning 
following lingering illness. He was born August 3, 1879 in Forest Junction, 
the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Reiser. On Sept. 26, 1916, he 
was married to Miss Mary Meyer. From 1916 until their retirement in 1952 
they operated farm in the town of New Holstein. Last year they moved to the 
village of St. Ann.  Survivors include his wife; one sister, Mrs. Mary Meyer, 
of New Holstein; and one brother, William Reiser, of New Holstein. Funeral 
services will be held at 9:30 a. m., Tuesday, at the Meiselwitz Funeral home, 
Kiel and at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic church, St. Anna. The Rev. John M. 
Haen will be celebrant of the requiem high mass and burial will be made in 
the church cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home until the 
hour of services the Holy Name of which the deceased had been a member, will 
pray the Rosary at 8 p. m., this evening, at the funeral home.

MARY REISER

Death claimed Mr. Ambrose Reiser, 60, at her home in this city on Friday 
morning at 10:30, after a prolong illness.  Deceased, nee Marie Nadler, 
was born at Marytown, Fond du Lac county, October 5, 1867, where she grew 
to womanhood.  
January 8, 1884, she was married at St. Anna to Ambrose Reiser, after 
which the couple lived on a farm in the town of New Holstein until six 
years ago, when they retired and moved to Kiel, where they have since 
resided.  Mrs. Reiser was well-known in the communities where she spent 
her life and enjoyed the esteem of all who knew her, for her kindly and 
benevolent spirit which she showed on every occasion.  She will be 
greatly missed by her husband and children and host of friend.
Besides her husband she leaves to mourn three sons and four daughters: 
Arthur A. Reiser of New Holstein, Mrs W. J. Gregorius of Milwaukee, Nic. 
Reiser of Plymouth, Mrs. John Neis of West Allis, Wm. A. Reiser of St. 
Anna, Mrs. Eugene Breitenbach of North Milwaukee, and Miss Marcella A. 
Reiser at home.  Also 2 brothers, Nic. Nadler of New Holstein, Anton 
Nadler of West Bend, and two sisters, Mrs. John Dorn of St. Anna and 
Margaret Nadler of West Bend, and 14 grandchildren.
Funeral services took place at 9 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul church in 
Kiel, the Rev. A Roder officiating, and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann’s 
church, Rev. J. H. Schmitt conducted the last sad rites.

Mrs. Mary Reiser, 67, widow of the late Joseph W. Reiser, died suddenly 
Sunday afternoon at her home in St. Ann. Nee Mary Meyer, she was born 
Dec. 1, 1887, in Marytown, a daughter of the late Louis and Theresa Long 
Meyer. She was married to Joseph W. Reiser on Sept. 26, 1916.  Following 
their marriage, the couple operated a farm in the Town of New Holstein 
until 1952. They resided in St. Ann since their retirement. Mrs. Reiser 
was a member of the Christian Mothers Society of St. Ann's Catholic Church. 
Only immediate survivor is a brother, Anthony Meyer, of Clintonville. Her 
husband died in February, 1953, and four sisters and two brothers also 
preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 9:15 a. m. Tuesday 
at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, and at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic 
Church, with the Rev. John M. Haen, pastor, the celebrant of the requiem 
mass.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.  The body will lie in state 
at the funeral home until the hour of services.  A parish vigil will be 
held at the funeral home at 8 o'clock this evening. Members of the Christian 
Mothers Society will recite the rosary at the church immediately preceding 
the funeral mass.

St. Anna — March 8 — Mrs. Theresa Reiser, widow of the late Fabian Reiser, 
of Rhine, Sheboygan County, died at her home, Tuesday March 1, at the 
advanced age of 71 years.  Her funeral took place at St. Anna, Friday 
March 4, Rev. J. H. Schiefen officiating.  The deceased was both a truly 
virtuous woman and an energetic church member.  Her last act of charity 
consisted in a donation for a new church at St. Anna.

ALBERT RICHART

Albert Richart, resident of the town of New Holstein, died Monday morning at 
11:50 at his home, after a lingering illness of a year. He was the son of the 
late Mr. and Mrs. John Richart, and was born Dec. 17, 1880, in St. Kilian, 
Wisconsin.
He was married to Miss Mary Schwartz of Hayton on November, 22, 1903.  The 
couple first located in Kiel, where they resided for two years, during which 
time the deceased was employed at the Kiel Wooden Ware Co. Plant.  They then 
moved to the farm where they have since lived.
Five children of whom two died in infancy, were born to them.  Surviving are 
his widow, two sons, Fred of Cazenovia and George at home, and a daughter, 
Miss Alice, at home. There are also three grandchildren, three brothers, Louis 
of Marathon, John of New Holstein and Anton of St. Kilian; and a sister, Mrs. 
Elizabeth Steinmetz of Milwaukee.
Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Thursday from the residence with services 
at the St. Anna church at 9:30.  Burial was in the adjoining cemetery, the Rev. 
Fr. J. H. Schmidt conducting the last rites.

ALOIS RICHART

Alois Richart died at the home of his son John at New Holstein on Tuesday forenoon, 
after 11 days’ illness with enlargement of the liver and inflammation of the bowels.  
Decedent was born Nov. 11, 1858, at St. Kilian, Fond du Lac County, where he grew 
to manhood.  He was married to Margaret Irrthum, Jan. 15, 1883, at Lomira.  After 
their marriage the couple moved to Nebraska, where they lived for 7 years.  
Returning to Wisconsin, they resided on farm in Fond du Lac, Washington and Calumet 
counties until five years ago, when they sold their farm in the town of New Holstein, 
west of Kiel, and moved to this city, where they lived till about three weeks ago, 
since when they made their home with their son, in the town of New Holstein.  Mr. 
Richart leaves to mourn his death his grief-stricken wife, two daughters, Mrs. Emil 
Ehlenbeck of St. Anna and Mrs. Edw. Ehlenbeck of Rockville, and one son, John of New 
Holstein.  Also six grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters. Funeral services 
will be at 9:30 on Thursday at St. Peter & Paul Catholic church at Kiel.  Interment 
in St. Anna cemetery.  Rev. A. Roder will officiate.

SUSANNA RIX

Mrs. Henry Rix died Tuesday at her home in the town of New Holstein. She was born 
October 23, 1853 in Luxemborg, Germany where she grew to young womanhood. In 1874 
she was married to Henry Rix and 1887 they emigrated to America with their two 
children.  Coming to New Holstein they settled on a farm near St. Anna. She leaves 
besides her husband, one son, Peter Rix of Chicago and one daughter, Mrs. Ed Greve 
of Sheboygan.  The funeral was held this Friday morning at St. Anna, Rev Schmitt 
officiating

this morning.  He had been ill for several months.  He was 
born Jan. 16, 1876, son of the late Barthelme and Annie 
Hiederer Roeder. He attended school in St. Anna. He married 
Elizabeth Stemper of St. Anna, May 30, 1899.  They lived on 
a farm in New Holstein which they operated until their 
retirement in 1948 when they moved to Kiel. Mrs. Roeder died 
in August, 1955.  He was a member of Holy Name Society and 
the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin, St. Anna Branch.  
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Math (Olive) Winkel, R. 2, 
Elkhart Lake, and Mrs. Alfred (Viola) Mirsberger, Sheboygan; 
a son, Ervin, R. 3, Chilton; 11 grandchildren and 27 great

Sunday morning at St. Nicholas Hospital after a prolonged 
illness. Nee Elizabeth Stemper, she was born Nov. 4, 1875, 
in the town of Port Washington, a daughter of the late 
John and Barbara Grabinger Stemper.  She was married 
May 30, 1899, to Anton Roeder at St. Ann’s Catholic Church 
at St. Anna, six miles west of Kiel. The couple celebrated
their golden wedding anniversary in 1949. After their 
marriage the couple settled on a farm near St. Ann where 
they lived until moving to Kiel in 1948.  Mrs. Roeder was 
a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at Kiel and 
the Christian Mothers’ Alter Society of St. Ann’s parish at 
St. Ann.
Survivors are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Matthew 
(Olive) Winkel, St. Ann, and Mrs. Alfred (Viola) Mirsberger, 
Sheboygan; two sons, Ervin of Chilton, and Walter of New 
Holstein; 11 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. 
She is also survived by two brothers, John Stemper of Kiel 
and Nick of New Holstein, and four sisters, Mrs. Barbara 
Weyker, Racine, Mrs. John Hass, Minneapolis and Mrs. Albert 
Kohler and Mrs. Henry Mitter, both of Barton. Two sisters 
and a brother preceded her in death.

MARGARET ROEHRIG

Mrs. P. Roehrig Dies on Thursday At Home of Son
The death of Mrs. Peter Roehrig, 72, occurred early Thursday morning of
last week at the home of her son Casper in the town of New Holstein,
where she had been visiting. Her demise was due to the infirmities of
old age.
The deceased, nee Margaret Mertens, was born in St. Anna, October 6,
1867(sic), and spent all her life in this vicinity. She was united in
marriage Nov. 27, 1879, to Peter Roehrig. To this union four children
were born, two of whom survive. They are Mrs. Nicholas Dietz of Milwaukee,
and Casper, on the homestead farm. One daughter, Mrs. Thomas Regan of
Milwaukee preceded her in death. Another child died in its infancy.
Besides her husband, she is also survived by one brother, Jacob Mertens
of this city, and two sisters, Mrs. Anton Herzog and Mrs. Joseph L.
Voelker of St. Anna. Mr. and Mrs. Roehrig have made their home in Kiel
for the past 15 years. The deceased was a staunch member of the Christian
Mothers Society here.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at the St. Ann's
church, the Rev. J.H. Schmitt reading the mass. Interment was in the
adjoining cemetery.

which occurred at the home of her sister, Mrs. Julius Heus at St. Anna, 
following a brief illness of influenza-pneumonia,  the deceased was 23 
years old, was born at St. Anna and spent her entire life their until 
about a year ago, since that time staying at the home of her sister. She 
was an amiable and bright young lady, ambitious to succeed, faithful in 
the line of duty, and made friends where ever she was known.  She is 
survived by her mother, five sisters and seven brothers.  The remains 
were brought there and buried in St. Ann’s cemetery on Tuesday.

ROSETTA "BETTY" SCHNELL 
 
Rosetta E."Betty" Schnell, age 85, of St. Anna, WI, died Tuesday morning, 
August 30, 2011 at Homestead Care Center, New Holstein where she resided 
the past few weeks. She was the former Rosetta Turba, born June 30, 1926 
in St. Anna, daughter of the late Henry & Seraphine (Perl) Turba. Betty 
attended school in St. Anna. She had worked at St. Nicholas Hospital & 
Leverenz Shoe Co. prior to her marriage to Eldridge P. Schnell on May 25, 
1948 at St. Ann Catholic Church, St. Anna. Betty & Eldridge farmed in the 
St. Anna area after their marriage. Eldridge preceded her in death on 
February 19, 2006. Betty was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, St. 
Anna as well as the Christian Women's Society and the Catholic Knights. 
Betty also was a member of the Mission Quilting Society, craft groups 
and volunteered at the Salvatorian Mission Warehouse, New Holstein for 
many years. She enjoyed flower gardening, reading and doing word searches.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldridge, infant son, Anthony, 
sister, Lucina Krebsbach and brothers-in-law, Ken Steffen and Don Strong. 
The funeral Mass for Betty will be celebrated at 6:00 pm. Thursday, 
September 1, 2011 at St. Ann Catholic Church, St. Anna with Rev. Harold 
Berryman & Joe Zenk, Parish Director officiating. Burial will take place 
in the parish cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on 
Thursday from 3:00 pm until the time of service. Betty's family would 
like to extend their thanks to the doctors and staff of Aurora Medical 
Centers in Sheboygan & Grafton and Homestead Care Center, New Holstein

SIGMUND W. SCHWARZ
The funeral Mass for Sigmund W. Schwarz, 55, owner and operator of the Schwarz
Supper Club at St. Anna, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Anna Catholic Church, 
with the Rev. Raymond Konard, pastors celebrant. Mass, will follow 10 a.m. family 
rites at the Erbe-Evjen Funeral Home, New Holstein, with burial in the parish 
cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home until the time of services Thursday. A parish
wake will be held there at 7:30 this evening. Military rites will be conducted at 
graveside by New Holstein American Legion Post 124, of which he was a member.
Mr. Schwarz died early Tuesday at Wood Veterans Hospital, Milwaukee, where he
had been a patient one week. He had been ill the past two years.
Mr. Schwarz, in the restaurant business most of his adult life, opened the St. Anna 
supper club 14 years ago.
A native of Kloten (Calumet County), he was born April 17, 1916, a son of Mrs. 
Josephine Mueller Schwarz and the late John Schwarz. He attended school in New Holstein.
On April 14, 1950 he married Evelyn Edison in Virginia City, Nev.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of New Holstein American Legion
Post No. 124. He was also a member of the East Shore Lions Club, Calumet County
Tavern League, St. Anna Sportsmen's Club, Outdoors Inc., and St. Anna Catholic
Parish.
He is survived by his wife; mother, R. 1, New Holstein; a son, John. R. 1, New Holstein;
two step-sons, David, St. Anna and James, R. 1, St. Cloud; two step-daughters, Mrs.
James (Barbara) Hennes, St. Anna, and Mrs. Lloyd (Sandra) Stemper, Demotte, Ind.,
and 13 grandchildren.
He also leaves three brothers, Sylvester, Clarence and Gregor, all of R. 1, New 
Holstein; and five sisters, Mrs. George Rabe, Mrs. Anthony Heimerl and Mrs. Jerome 
Williams, all of R. 1, New Holstein, Mrs. Robert Schneider, R. 2, Kiel, and Mrs. Fred
Neima, Downey, Calif.

LUCILLE SHUMAKER

Lucille Rose (nee Van Erem) Shumaker, age 93, died on Friday, July 22, 2005 
at the Calumet Homestead in New Holstein. 
She was born on Aug. 20, 1911 in Green Bay, daughter of the late Andrew and 
Estelle (Vanderperren) Van Erem. 
As a young child, she moved with her parents to a farm near Pulaski. She 
attended a one-room school at Kunesh. 
She worked as a mother’s helper in Green Bay until her marriage to Ernest Glenn 
Shumaker. Her husband, Glenn, preceded her in death on Feb. 13, 1957. 
They lived in the Green Bay area until moving to Kiel in 1935. In 1938 they moved 
to Louis Corners and in 1942 to St. Anna until 1995. She moved to the Mill View 
Apartments in Kiel and later to Century Ridge in Chilton, then onto the Calumet 
Homestead in New Holstein where she resided for the past four years. She was a 
member of St. Ann’s Parish, a member of the Christian Mothers and volunteered at 
the Salvatorian Center in New Holstein. 
Lucille raised 11 children and taught them by example the value of hard work. She 
worked at Cal’s Coffee Shop in Kiel, Evans Variety Store in Kiel, and for many 
years at Schwarz’s Supper Club in St. Anna, retiring at the age of 79. She always 
had a large garden and loved working in her flower garden. She loved to travel, 
visiting her family throughout the country. 
She is survived by four sons and six daughters.She is also survived by a son-in-law, 
47 grandchildren; 89 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She 
is further survived by one sister, Rosella Sorenson of Howard; three sisters-in-law, 
Margaret Van Erem of Howard, Carol Shumaker of Seattle, Wash., and Louise Flack of 
Lacey, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in 
death by a daughter, Eilene Diller; one grandson, Michael Keuler; and one great-
granddaughter, Lauren Eastman. Also preceding her in death were four brothers; her 
twin, Austin (Butch), Louis, Alphonse and Jacob Van Erem, and two sisters, Elizabeth 
Tonnon and Isabelle Eageson. 
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at St. Ann’s Catholic 
Church in St. Anna with the Rev. Frank Weber officiating. Burial will follow in the 
parish cemetery. 
Friends may call at Wieting Family Funeral Home, 1212 Teckla Place, Kiel, from 4 to 
7 p.m. Friday July 29, and again at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. 
when family prayers will be held. 
A memorial fund a has been established in the name of Lucille Shumaker. The family 
would also like to thank the staff at Calumet Homestead and Dr. Dennis Pleviak for 
the wonderful care given to her the last few years. Also thank you to Fr. Frank Weber

KATHRYN SMITH

Mrs. Kathryn Smith, 823 Cleveland St., Kiel, died Wednesday morning,
April 18, 1990, at her home, of an apparent heart attack.
She is the former Kathryn Jeanty, born in the Town of Russell, daughter
of the late John and Alma Jens Jeanty. She attended grade school in St. 
Anna and graduated from Kiel High School. She received a B.E. degree at 
the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and a masters degree at North-
western University, Evanston IL.
In June of 1950 she married Harry Smith at St. Ann Catholic Church, St.
Anna. She taught business education in Tripoli, Tigerton, Hilbert and
Elkhart Lake for a total of 13 years.
Kathryn Smith was employed as a secretary at Stoelping Incorporated, of 
Kiel for 18 years, retiring in 1978.
Her husband, Harry, died on April 7, 1961. She was a member of St. Peter
and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel; the Christian Mother’s Society, the Kiel
Historical Society and the Kiel Senior Citizens.
Survivors include two daughters, one granddaughter, one sister, Mrs. 
Clara McDonald, LaCrosse, WI. (Survivors edited for privacy) She was

Mrs. Anna Stemper, aged 48 years, wife of John Stemper, and a resident of 
St. Anne, died at 1 p.m. Monday at the St. Nicholas hospital, where she 
submitted to an operation a short time ago.  Mrs. Stemper was born in 
Wisconsin on August 15, 1878.  She is survived by her husband and one son. 
The remains will be taken to St. Anne and funeral services will be held 
there at the Catholic church at 10 a.m. Friday.

HENRY STEMPER

New Holstein—Henry Stemper died at his home in St. Anna at 12:30 Wednesday 
morning after a four-year illness.  
Born in St. Anna on March 30, 1869, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Stemper, 
he married Mary La Croix of St. Anna on Nov. 12, 1890.  He has been retired 
from farming for several years.
Surviving are his widow; two children, Edward N. of New Holstein and Mrs. Hugo 
(Elfrieda) Gebhart of Milwaukee; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; 
three brothers, Nick of St. James, Minn., Guido of Milwaukee, and Joseph of New 
Holstein; five sisters. Mrs. W. Z. (Clementine) Miller of Portland, Ore., Mrs. 
John (Ludwin) Zender of St. James, Minn., Mrs. Joseph (Josephine) Gerhartz of 
Charlesburg, Mrs. Emil (Minnie) Zoelker of Green Bay, and Mrs. Jac. (Martha) 
Friess of Milwaukee.  A daughter, Mrs. S. S. (Amanda) Mahlberg of Glenbeulah, 
preceded him in death in 1939, while two brothers and a sister also passed on 
prior to his death.  
A member of Holy Name society of St. Ann’s Catholic church, he will be buried 
in the church cemetery following rites on Saturday morning with Rev. Clemence 
Kern officiating.

JOHN STEMPER JR. (d. 1963)

John Stemper, 82, 818 Seventh St., Kiel, died this morning at St. Nicholas 
Hospital, Sheboygan, where he had been a patient the past three months.  
He was born June 25, 1881, near St. Anna, a son of the late John and Barbara 
Stemper.  He attended the St. Anna Catholic School and was married June 24, 
____ to Anna Meyer at St. Ann’s Catholic Church.  The couple lived on a farm 
in the Town of New Holstein.  Mrs. Stemper preceded him in death in March of 
1927.  Mr. Stemper retired from farming in 1936 and moved to Kiel.  He was a 
member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, and the Holy Name Society 
of the church. 
Surviving are a son, Hugo, R. 1, New Holstein; a grandson and two great-
grandsons; two sisters, Mrs. Edwin Hass, Hudson, and Mrs. Alber Koller, 
West Bend.  
Funeral services will be Tuesday at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, 
following brief rites at Meiselwitz Funeral Home.  The Rev. George Kiefer, 
pastor will officiate and burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, St. Anna.

JOHN STEMPER SR.  (d. 1932)

Kiel—John Stemper, age 79, resident of Kiel, passed away at the Plymouth 
hospital, at 12:13 a.m. Sunday, after being a patient there for the past 
three days. Mr. Stemper was ill for the past two years with a complication 
of diseases.  
Deceased was born April 18, 1853 at Holy Cross, Wis.  On January 14, 1874 
he was married to Barbara Grabinger, and the couple located on a farm in 
Port Washington. Later they sold that farm and purchased a farm in St. Anna, 
which they disposed of and moved to Kiel 20 years ago.  His wife preceded 
him in death May 24, 1927.  To the couple were born twelve children, of who 
2 died in their youth.  He was married the second time to Miss Anna Cherne 
of Sheboygan, on May 2, 1929, and the couple lived for a while at Sheboygan 
and then returned to Kiel, making their home at 803 Washington street.  
Surviving Mr. Stemper are his widow, seven daughters, Mrs. Erhard Koehler 
of Charlesburg, Mrs. Barbara Weaker of Racine, Mrs. Anton Roeder of St. 
Anna, Mrs. B. Voigt of Portland, Oregon, Mrs. Albert Keller of Kohler, Mrs. 
___Hass and Mrs. Henry Mea___ of Barton, Wisconsin ; three sons, Nicholas J. 
Stemper of St. Anna, John J. Stemper of St. Anna and Edward of Kohler. 
Thirty ___grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and two brothers, Peter 
of Montana and Nicholas of Green Bay, also survive.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at the family residence, 803 
Washington street and at 9:00 o’clock at St. Peter and Paul Catholic church, 
with the Rev. Father Esdepsky officiating at the rites. Burial will be made 
in St. Anna Catholic church cemetery on the family lot. The great grandsons 
of the deceased will act as pallbearers.

New Holstein Man Dies After Illness
New Holstein—John M. Stemper, 68, a farmer for many years in the town of 
New Holstein, passed away Wednesday afternoon at the Community hospital 
in New London after a brief illness.  He had made his home for the past 
several months with a son, Leroy, at Clintonville.
Mr. Stemper was born in the town of Russell, April 19, 1899 (sic) the 
son of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Stemper.  He attended school at St. Anna 
and in June 1904, was married to Miss Katherine Kleinhans there. He was 
a member of the Holy Name society of St. Anna Catholic church.  
He leaves his wife; three sons, Allen, New Holstein; Cyril, Elkhart Lake, 
and Leroy, Clintonville; three daughters, Mrs. Lucille Mattison, Clovis, 
Calif., Mrs. Aurelia Aschenbrenner, Fresno, Calif., and Mrs. Florence 
Harbrough, Milwaukee; 21 grandchildren; four brothers, Nicholas, St. 
James, Minn.; Henry, St. Anna; Guido, Milwaukee, and Joseph, New Holstein, 
and five sisters, Mrs. Clementine Miller, Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Ludzina 
Zender, St. James, Minn.; Mrs. Joseph Gerhartz, Fond du Lac; Mrs. Emil

KATHERINE STEMPER

Mrs. Katherine Kleinhans Stemper, 69, of route 2, Elkhart Lake, died 
shortly before noon Friday at St. Nicholas hospital after a lingering 
illness.  Born April 23, 1882, in the town of Rhine, the daughter of 
Jacob and Katherine Meyer Kleinhans, she attended school at St. Anna 
and was married to John Stemper in June, 1904.  She was a member of 
the Christian Mothers’ society of St. Ann’s Catholic Church.  
Survivors are four sons, Allen, Glenn and Cyrill of St. Ann and LeRoy 
of Clintonville; three daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Lucille) Mattison of 
Clovis, Calif., Mrs. Alfred (Aurelia) Aschenbrenner of Fresno, Calif., 
and Mrs. Alfred (Florence) Harrough of Hales Corners; her mother, Mrs. 
Jacob Kleinhans of St. Anne; 22 grandchildren; three brothers, William 
of Fresno, Calif., Nicholas of St. Nazianz, Clarence of Jericho; and 
two sisters, Mrs. Steve Nichols and Mrs. Edward Klauck of New Holstein. 
Her husband preceded her in death Nov 27, 1945. (sic) 
Funeral services will be Monday at Erbe-Hoffmann Funeral Home, New 
Holstein, and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church.  The Rev. John Haen,

MARIE LOUISE STEMPER

Mrs. Nicholas Stemper passed away at the home of her son at 
Fond du Lac. Mrs. Stemper nee Louise Marshal, was born June 
15, 1848 in Belgium, Germany. In the year 1869 she married 
to Nicholas Stemper.
She died in February 1934 and her body was removed to the
home of her son Henry at St. Anna and the funeral services
were held at St. Anna Catholic Church. Rev. J.H. Schmitt
officiated and burial in the adjoining cemetery.

NICHOLAS STEMPER  (d. 1937)

Nicholas Stemper, 87, resident of St. Ann and New Holstein 
for many years, died at 4 p.m. Monday at the residence of 
his son, Guido, 1786th Street, after two months illness.
Mr. Stemper, who was born at Lake Church, Ozaukee county, 
had resided near St. Ann until twenty years ago. He lived 
in New Holstein for fifteen years and at the home of his 
son Guido, for the last five years.
Mrs. Stemper died three years ago. Surviving are ten children, 
Mrs. William Miller, Portland Oregon, Mrs. J.J. Zender, St. 
James, Minn., Mrs. Josephine Gerhartz, Charlesburg, Mrs. 
Emil Voelker, Green Bay, Mrs. J.H. Fries of Milwaukee, Edward 
of Palmer, Idaho, Henry and John of St. Ann, Nicholas of St.

NICHOLAS J. STEMPER  (d. 1960)

Nicholas J. Stemper, 85, of 2011 Wisconsin Ave., New Holstein, died Friday at 
his home following a lingering illness.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Erbe-Hoffman Funeral Home, New 
Holstein, and at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. The Rev. Lambert Scanlan 
will officiate and burial will be in the cemtery at St. Anna.
Mr. Stemper was born May 15, 1874, at Port Washington, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. 
John Stemper. He attended district shcool there and choose farming as a lifetime 
occupation. Mr. Stemper moved to New Holstein 15 years ago following retirement. 
He married the former Ottilia Pfranz April 16, 1901, at Plymouth. She died Dec. 17, 
1959. Mr. Stemper was a member of the Holy Name Society of Holy Rosary Church. A 
daughter and a son preceded him in death.
Survivors include three sons, Alvin of Newton, Raymond of Elkhart Lake and Edwin 
of New Holstein; five daughters, Mrs. Olive Huebschman of Random Lake, Mrs. Joseph 
Grasser of New Holstein, Mrs. Peter Pierre of Techny, Ill., Mrs. Otto Hendrich of 
Evanston, Ill., and Mrs. Lawrence Nolsen of Skokie, Ill.; a brother, John of Kiel; 
two sisters, Mrs. Edwin Hass of St. Paul, Minn., and Mrs. Albert Kohler of Barton, 
Wis., and 37 grandchildren.

On Monday evening, May 11, the grim reaper entered our community and
claimed John Turba. The deceased was born in the town of Russell, two
miles west of St. Anna, where he spent all his life, on October 3,
1865, thereby attaining the age of 70 years. In 1894 he was married
to Louise LaCroix, who survives him. The deceased was a kind and
loving husband and father and always had a kind word and was in a
friendly disposition when met by his neighbors and friends, who
regretted to hear of his departure from this earth, after as many
years of toil and hardships, which befall all of us more or less in
this life. He was a member of St. Joseph's Society and the Holy
Name Society. He is survived by five sons, namely: Edmund, Joseph,
Henry and Leo of St. Anna, and Otto of Kiel; also 13 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday morning at 10 o'clock at
St. Anna's church, the Rev. Father J.H. Schmitt officiating. Burial

Joseph Turba Passes Away At Elkhart Lake
Joseph Turba, 84-year-old Elkhart Lake resident, passed away at 
2:15 p.m. Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Emil Zorn,
326 Franklin st., Plymouth, following a short illness.
He was born on Nov. 15, 1863, in St. Anna, the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Anton Turba. On Nov. 13, 1888, he was married to Miss Josephine
Merk. She died on April 23, 1891.
On Nov. 26, 1891, Mr. Turba was married to Miss Lena Meyer. After
their marriage the couple operated farms in Sheboygan county until
1924. For some time they resided in Kiel. From 1924 to 1938 Mr.
Turba was employed by the H.C. Prange Co. in Sheboygan. They moved
to Plymouth in 1940 and in 1947 moved to Elkhart Lake.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Hugo of Hartland and Arno
of Sheboygan; two daughters, Mrs. Henry (Joseph) Free of Fresno,
Calif., and Mrs. Emil (Dionysia) Zorn of Plymouth; seven grand-
children; six great-grandchildren. One brother and one sister
preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday at the Gentine 
Funeral home at Plymouth, and at 9:30 o'clock at St. George's 
Catholic church in Elkhart Lake, with the Rev. Henry Langenfeld
officiating. Burial was made in the St. Anna cemetery.

Mrs. Louise Turba, 86, died suddenly Wednesday at the 
home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edmund 
Turba of St. Anna.  Nee Louise LaCroix, she was born in 
the town of Russell April 6, 1869, a daughter of the late 
Mr. and Mrs. Henry LaCroix. June 19, 1894, she was married 
to John Turba at St. Ann’s Church and settled and lived on 
a farm west of St. Anna until the death of her husband in 
1936.  Since then she has lived with her son in St. Anna. 
She was a member of St. Ann’s parish and of the Christian 
Mothers Society.
Survivors are four sons, Edmund, Joseph, Henry, and Leo 
all of St. Anna, 16 grandchildren, 18 grandchildren and a 
sister, Mrs. Mary Stemper of Milwaukee. In addition to her 
husband she was preceded in death by a son, Otto in Oct. 
1942 and three sisters and a brother.  Members of the 
Christian Mothers Society will recite the rosary at St. 
Ann’s Church Monday prior to the funeral mass.  The Rev. 
John M. Haen will be celebrant of the mass with burial in 
the church cemetery.

ELIZABETH VICHICH

Mrs. Elizabeth Vichich, 65, residing with her daughter, Mrs. Henry Seitenzahl 
of 615 State street, Kiel, died this morning at the St. Nicholas hospital, 
Sheboygan.

Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Vichich, 65, of Kiel, who died yesterday 
at the St. Nicholas hospital in Sheboygan, will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at 
the Meiselwitz funeral home in Kiel and at 9:30 a.m. at the SS. Peter-Paul 
Catholic church. The Rev. F.X. Kheil of SS. Peter-Paul church and the Rev. 
Father Kern of the St. Anna Catholic church will officiate. Burial will be 
in the St. Anna church cemetery.
Mrs. Vichich, nee Engheiser, was born in 1878 in Austria-Hungary and came to 
this country in 1907. She was married to Joseph Vichich in 1908. Mr. Vichich 
died in 1936 and since 1946 Mrs. Vichich had been making her home with her 
daughter, Mrs. Henry Seitenzahl in Kiel.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Floyd Marion Thielman of Charlesburg and Mrs. 
Seitenzahl; two sons, Joseph of Appleton and Edward of Milwaukee; one brother, 
John Engheiser of Germany; 10 grandchildren.
Mrs. Vichich was a member of the Christian Mothers Altar society and members 
will recite the rosary at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Friends may call 
at the funeral home this evening until time of services.

John Walsdorf – Peter Rach
St. Anna — Mr. John Walsdorf, another young man of 28 years, died after a 
long protracted illness, of consumption, March 27th and was laid to rest 
in St. Anna’s cemetery, March 30th.  While the two above mentioned were 
yet lying in the open coffin, watched by the sad looks of their mourning 
relatives and friends, another ill-fated messenger announced the death 
of Mrs. Jos. Voelker, nee Barbara Enders, who died shortly after giving 
birth to a child, at the age of 38 years, March 28th.  Her funeral took 
place at St. Anna, March 31st, amid a large concourse of relatives and 
friends.  Everyone in the parish deeply sympathizes with the bereaved 
husband and his six little children, who have suffered such a heavy 
loss in the death of their wife and mother.

JOSEPH VOELKER

Jos. L. Voelker Dies at Home in St. Anna
Respected Farmer and a Director of Local Bank, Passes On
After an illness of about a week and a half, Joseph Voelker, 67, died at
his home in St. Anna at 9 a.m. Tuesday of this week. He had made his home
in St. Anna, with his wife, for the past 11 years.
Mr. Voelker was born May 31, 1870, on the homestead farm in the town of
Russell, now owned by his son, Hilmar. There he lived until his retirement
in 1926. He was married on October 23, 1894, to Miss Clara Mertens of St.
Anna. To the couple, six children were born, all of whome survive. They
are: Mrs. Ambrose (Katherine) Reiser and Mrs. Ted (Theklal) Reiser of 
Chilton; Mrs. Lester (Florence) Wiskerchen of Auburndale; Gilbert of Thorp;
Joseph of Chilton; and Hilmar of near St. Anna. His widow also survives
him. He leaves also one brother, Arnold of Duluth, Minn., and four sisters:
Mrs. Mich (Pauline) Wilgen, Mrs. Max (Katherine) Weber, and the Misses
Bertha and Margaret Voelker, all of Thorp.
He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Ann's church, and a director
of the Citizens State Bank of Kiel. Funeral services will be held at the
St. Anna church Friday morning at 9 o'clock, with the Rev. John Bartelme
officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. The remains may be
viewed at the home in St. Anna.
A successful farmer, Mr. Voelker was a highly respected resident of St.
Anna, and enjoyed a wide circle of friends.

VALENTIN VOELKER

Valentine Voelker, one of the old and respected citizens of the town of Russell, 
died at his home on Sunday last and was buried from the St. Anna Catholic Church 
on Tuesday.  Mr. Voelker was in his seventy second year.  He was a man highly 
respected where he was known.  The funeral was attended by all of his children.

JOHANNA WALSDORF

Johanna F. Walsdorf, 90, formerly of St. Anna and Kiel, died Monday, Dec. 28, 
1992 at Calumet Homestead in New Holstein, where she had resided since February 
1988.  
She was born Aug. 26, 1902 in Newburg, a daughter of John and Angeline (Hammes) 
Wollner. On Sept. 21, 1925 she married Dr. I.A. Walsdorf at St. Ann Catholic 
Church, St. Anna. She was a partner with her husband, who founded St. Anna 
Veterinary Office in 1925, until they retired in 1956 and moved to Kiel. She was 
a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, St. Anna, St Anna and Kiel Christian Mothers, 
the original 500 Rummy Club of St. Anna, Kiel Homemakers and Kiel Senior Citizens.  
Survivors include four sons, Dr. James (Ruth), New Holstein; William (Mary Ann), 
Leavenworth, Wash,.; Dr. Thomas, Manhatten Beach, Calif.; and John J., Portland, 
Ore.; two daughters, Marian (Joseph) Schmitz, Greendale, and Catherine (Molly) 
(Thomas) Meyer, Kewaunee; 17 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren  
Preceding her in death were her husband on Oct. 24, 1969, five sisters and one 
brother.  
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 2 at St. Ann Catholic Church, St. Anna. 
The Rev. Earl Brouchoud and Deacon Clay Wildenburg officiated. Burial was in the 
church cemetery.

St. Anna — Rosa Walsdorf died of consumption Sunday night, April 10, at the age 
of 22 years, and was buried at St. Anna, April 13th.  Her brother preceded her 
to the world beyond two weeks ago.

EDWARD J. WALTERS

Edward "Eddie" J. Walters, 66, of N134 Highway A New Holstein, 
died Thursday morning, February 15, 2007 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, 
Appleton after a two month battle with cancer.
He was born October 10, 1940 in Sheboygan Falls, son of the late 
Alvin Sr. "Smoky" & Antoni "Toni" Leon Walters.
Eddie attended St. Mary's Grade School and Sheboygan Falls High 
School.
On August 30, 1969 he was united in marriage to Carol Schmitz at 
St. Ann Catholic Church, St. Anna.
He had previous been employed at Kohler Foundry and Tecumseh Products, 
New Holstein before retiring in 2000 from Bremer Mfg. in St. Anna 
where he was employed for twenty four year. After retirement he 
worked at Schmitty's Garage in St. Anna.
Eddie enjoyed going up North, especially Schaefers Park in Crivitz, 
and "cruising" the highways and side roads.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Margie, his father and mother-
in-law, Ervin & Lorraine Schmitz, two brothers-in-law, Tony Ramminger 
and Kenny Schmitz and the family dogs, Cocoa & Bimbo.
The funeral mass for Eddie will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 
19, 2007 at St. Ann Catholic Church, St. Anna with the Rev. Harold 
Berryman officiating.
Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call at the Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 6th St., 
Kiel from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday and at the funeral home on 
Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. when brief family rites will 
take place.
A wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established in his name.

LAMINA WEISSGERBER

Mrs. Lamina Weissgerber died June 16, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, 
Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Worthman, Erdman, after a long illness.
She was born April 14, 1894, the daughter of William and Florence Grimes Cane and 
attended school at St. Anna and high school at Kiel
April 21, 1923, she married Arthur W. Weissgerber at Chicago and resided there 
until his death in 1940.  For the past six years she has made her home with the 
Worthmans.  
Funeral services were held at the Meiselwitz Funeral home with a requiem high mass 
at St. Anna’s church and burial in the church cemetery.
Survivors are a daughter, six sisters, Mrs. Cecelia Manthey, Princeton; Mrs. 
Marcella Bodell, Mrs. Clarise Jenkins, Mrs. Luella Weggel and Mrs. Ethel Slattery, 
Milwaukee, and Mrs. Rose Hoehl, Elkhart Lake; one brother Emmett, Milwaukee, and

JOHANN WICK

Died at the home of his son, Jacob, in the town of New Holstein, John Wick, 
aged 78 years.  He leaved an aged wife and three sons, John, Joseph and Jacob, 
besides a host of relatives and friends to mourn his death.  The funeral took 
place on Sunday at 9 o’clock at St. Anna’s Catholic Church and was largely 
attended.

MARGARETHA WIESECKEL

Suffering several broken ribs a few days previously, Mrs. Margaret Wieseckel,
aged 84, passed away Friday morning at about 3 o’clock at the home of her sons 
Michael and Nicholas in the town of New Holstein, southwest of Kiel.
Mrs. Wieseckel was born February 18, 1848 in Germany. When she was 15 years of 
age she came to this country with her parents, who located on a farm in Calumet 
County.  In 1854(sic) she was married to Barthelmius Wieseckel, the couple 
locating on a farm in the town of New Holstein, where they lived ever since. 
Her husband preceded her in death.
She is survived by her two son, one sister, Mrs. Anna Buhl of the town of 
Charlestown, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 9:30 from the home, and at 10 
o’clock at the St. Anna’s Catholic Church, the Rev. Fr. J. H. Schmitz performing 
the last rites, Burial was in the adjoining church cemetery.

NICHOLAS WIESECKEL

Nicholas Wieseckel, 84, of Rt. 2, Elkhart Lake, died Wednesday 
at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan, where he was a patient one 
week.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Meiselwitz 
Funeral Home, Kiel, and at 10 a.m. at St. Anna Catholic Church, 
St. Anna, the Rev. Benedict Marx officiating. Burial will be in 
the church cemetery.
Mr. Wieseckel was born Aug. 2, 1882, in the Town of New Holstein, 
son of the late Bartholomew and Margaret Woerfel Wieseckel. He 
farmed on the Wieseckel home farm all his life with a nephew, 
John Wieseckel. He was a Holy Name Society member. Survivors are 
nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3:30 p.m. Friday where 
at 8 p.m. the parish Rosary will be recited and at 8:30 p.m. the 
HNS will conduct its vigil.

ANNA ZORN

Funeral serviced for Mrs. August Zorn, 74, of the town of New Holstein, who 
died Thursday morning at the St. Nicholas hospital in Sheboygan, were held 
Monday morning at the St. Anna Catholic church, St. Anna. The Rev. John M. 
Haen celebrated the requiem mass, with burial in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Arthur Berrens, Eugene Berrens, Roger Zorn, Ronald Anders 
and Martin Salm.  Darwin Immel and Charles Zorn carried the cross. Relatives 
were here from Lake City and Goodhue, Minnesota, Stanley, Thorp, Chicago, 
Two Rivers, Green Bay and Milwaukee.
Born Anna LeCroix at St. Anna, July 2, 1879, Mrs. Zorn was a daughter of the 
late William and Elizabeth Dickrell LeCroix.  She spent her early life in St. 
Anna and attended Catholic school there.
January 27, 1899 she was married to Mr. Zorn of the town of New Holstein at 
St. Ann’s church.  The couple operated the Zorn homestead farm west of Kiel 
until retirement several years ago.  Although they continued to live on the 
farm, operation of it was taken over by a son, Raymond.  Mr. and Mrs. Zorn 
celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1949.
Surviving are the husband: one daughter, Mrs. Frank Anders, Sheboygan; four 
sons, William, Chilton, Isadore and Raymond, town of New Holstein; Leo, town 
of Russell; 14 great-grandchildren; 21 grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. John 
Johst and Mrs. Paulina Sievert, town of Schleswig; Mrs. Henry Schram, St. 
Nazianz, and Mrs. John Schram, Two Rivers; two brothers, Paul LaCroix, Kiel, 
and Edward, Glenbeulah.

NICHOLAS ZORN  (d. 1953)

Rites Held Tuesday For Nicholas Zorn
Funeral services were held yesterday, Wednesday for Nicholas Zorn, 85, 
who died Friday. The services were held from St. George Catholic church, 
Elkhart Lake, in charge of the Rev. J.H. Goebel. Burial was made in the 
St. Anna cemetery.
He was born on the Zorn home farm about two miles west of Kiel December 
6, 1867. He married Emma Mueller at St. Anna November 26, 1891.
The couple made their home on a farm in Russell until 1927 when they 
moved to Elkhart Lake. Survivors include the widow and five sons, Arthur, 
Cataba; Emil, Plymouth; Frank, Mt. Sterling, Illinois; and Alfred and 
Nicholas, Jr., Elkhart Lake; a brother, August, and 12 grandchildren and 
11 great-grandchildren.
