EA Would Rather Delay ‘Star Wars Battlefront’ Instead Of Launching An Unfinished Game

While there is already a hard launch date attached for Star Wars Battlefront, the game’s publisher wouldn’t be opposed to delaying the high-profile title if they didn’t feel like it was ready to be released. In a conversation with MCV, Electronic Arts COO Peter Moore revealed that the publishing giant would be prepared to push back the release date of Star Wars Battlefront to ensure a solid launch, even if that meant the game would be out before the upcoming theatrical release of Star Wars: Episode VII.

“We’d have no compunction, no hesitation that if something went wrong with Battlefront, if it wasn’t right, we would just push it.”

Moore reminded fans that they just recently delayed the latest Battlefield title several months to make sure that the game was prepared to launch. The EA executive stated that the decision to hold off releasing games like Battlefield: Hardline or Star Wars Battlefront would never be a simple call to make, but the publisher is definitely willing to do so if it’s the right move.

“Well you can’t ship it if it doesn’t work or the quality isn’t right. You just bite the bullet. Trust me, shipping Hardline in March was not the easiest thing to do from a business perspective, but it was the right thing to do from a player perspective.”

Fortunately, Moore reassured those who are hoping for Star Wars Battlefront to launch this November by confirming that that the game is currently still on course to hit store shelves on time. He revealed that Star Wars Battlefront is already running smoothly, even when running large-scale player matches during internal tests.

“But that’s not going to happen. The game is playable with 40-players already, and it is rock solid, so it ain’t going to happen.”

In another recent interview, DICE general manager Patrick Bach spoke with Gamespot about the stress that comes attached to developing Star Wars Battlefront. He explained the pressures that DICE is facing to not mess up while working on such a beloved franchise.

Bach also commented on the lack of a single-player story campaign within Star Wars Battlefront. While some have speculated that such a feature was cut in order to be able to released the game ahead of Star Wars: Episode VII, the developer revealed that they simply always intended for Star Wars Battlefront to be multiplayer-only.

“To be honest, single-player was never in the plan. It was never the concept. The concept for us was always that we wanted players to re-live the battles. We wanted them to play the battles from the original movies. And DICE, coming from its Battlefield background, knows how to make awesome battles in that context.”

That doesn’t mean that Star Wars Battlefront will only include large competitive matches. As the Inquisitr detailed earlier this month, Battlefront will also feature a series of short objective-based missions that players can take on alone or with a co-op partner.
