Grossi warns of risks for Zaporozhye nuclear plant if shelling intensifies — report

MOSCOW, January 25. /TASS/. The risk of an accident at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant will increase if shelling intensifies, International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi said in an interview with Politico, excerpts of which were published on Wednesday.

"There is a lot of talk about bigger, larger maneuvers and action in the early spring or late winter, which makes me think that any increase in bombing and shelling will undoubtedly increase the possibility of a nuclear accident," he said.

Politico reported that Grossi said he intends to travel to Moscow in February, without giving any date or other details of the planned visit.

An IAEA mission led by Grossi traveled to the station in September and left several agency employees there as observers. Afterward, the agency published a report calling for the establishment of a safety zone around the ZNPP to prevent accidents arising from hostilities. Grossi has been holding talks with Russian and Ukrainian officials to advance the idea.
